US visitor

SMP Secretary Carol Hide writes about the recent visit of a Los Angeles teacher to Horsham and her school’s kind dontation to the project.

Dr Kathy Scultheis with SMP chair David Hide

We were delighted to welcome Dr Kathy Scultheis  to Horsham last week and show her around some of Horsham’s key Shelley sites.  Kathy teaches English at the Oak Park High School in Los Angeles and is a huge Shelley enthusiast.   Students from  Oak Park's Shelley Society recently organised a fundraising event and kindly donated the proceeds to the Shelley Memorial project.  Kathy‘s summer visit to the UK provided the opportunity to present us with the donation.

Unfortunately, as evidenced in our photo of Kathy with SMP Chair David Hide,  we were unable to arrange a summer day in Horsham  that was comparable with a Californian summer.

This was Kathy’s second  visit to Horsham; on this occasion we were able to show her the Shelley Gallery in Horsham Museum, which was not in place when she visited last,  and to spend more time walking in Shelley’s foots steps around Horsham and Warnham.

We are grateful to Revd.  Rebecca Tuck who kindly opened St Margaret’s Church for us when we arrived in Warnham outside of the churches usual opening times .

Kathy is now a Horsham enthusiast as well as a Shelley fan and we look forward to meeting her again on her next visit!
