Sponsored walk raises £1200
SMP Chair David Hide reports on the most recent fundraising activity of the Shelley Memorial Project
On Saturday 12th August our fundraising team completed a nine mile circular walk retracing the footsteps of the great romatic poet and Horsham's most famous citizen Percy Bysshe Shelley.
The walkers were sent off along the route by the Chair of Horsham District Council, Dr David Skipp with local MP Jeremy Quin and Cllr Colin Minto from HDC wishing them luck a little earlier in the day. Having visited various places from Shelley’s childhood on the way with a reading from Shelley at each stop, the team returned to St Mary’s Church in The Causeway, Horsham for the final readings of Art thou pale for weariness and The Waning Moon before a rousing rendition of the final four stanzas from The Mask of Anarchy.
David Hide , chair of the SMP who was one of the findraisers commenting afterwards said, ' We had a fabulous day out walking through the town and across some beautiful countryside on our way to Warnham before returning to Horsham via the riverwalk. We would like to thank all those who took part and everyone for their generous donations which have taken us another step closer to realising our aim of funding a permanent memorial to Horsham and Warnham's acclaimed poet, Percy Bysshe Shelley.'
There is still time to make a donation as the link to the fundrasing page remains open. https://www.peoplesfundraising.com/donation/in-the-footsteps-of-shelley-a-sponsored-walk
